Watching in Mexico and the Yucatan
Wildlife in the Yucatan
- Bird
watching at Mayan Beach Garden - Bird
photos taken in the area of the Costa Maya
- Bird
songs of the Yucatan:
Vocalizations of sixteen resident species of
the Yucatan are described, including pictures, spectrograms and wav
files of their songs. Site by Dan Mennill.
- Tropical
Traveler wildlife page. This
is not a site of the Yucatan but of Florida, but the Yucatan is so
close to the Florida panhandle that all of the birds listed are found
in the Yucatan shores of the Caribbean.
- Hummingbirds
in Mexico: Page on Hummingbirds in
Mexico -- again not specifically about the Yucatan, but there are
a lot of hummingbirds in the Yucatan.
- Birding
Hotspots in Mexico: This is a site
with many links on birds in Mexico, including those of the Yucatan.
- Photographs
of Mexican Birds GIULIANO GERRA and Silvio Sommazzi : Beautiful
photographs of birds of Mexico. You'll see better photos of the same
birds that we have on our web site, but presented by a professional
photographer.
- Isla
Pajaros: Not
a spectacular website, but this Island's name means "Island of
the birds."
- Checklist
of Birds of the Yucatan. This
is a PDF booklet that you can print out and take with you. It may
take a couple of minutes to download. Most of these birds can be seen
in either the lagoons behind Mayan Beach Garden, on the beach or in
the Sian Kaan reserve.
- Birds
of Mexico - the Audubon society of Mexico. This has
some very nice pictures and descriptions of birds in Mexico, many
of which are found in the Yucatan.
- Bird
Picture display list for Mexico. This is a list of about 60
birds from Mexico with links to pictures. This comes in handy if you
know the name of a bird and want to see what it looks like
- Bird
pictures from Felipe Carillo Puerto. Personal travel site
that covers several birds found around Felipe
Carillo Puerto, Mayan capital of the Yucatan.
- All
about birds Excellant
website from Cornell lab of Ornithology. Although not focused on Mexico,
since many birds are migratory, this is a valuable resource.

and reviews of the best places on the web for:
Interesting site where you can see the migratory movements of turtles
that have been tagged. It is interesting to see how far some of them
roam. This site also covers sea turtles and their nesting sites. Worth
spending some time here.
