The Mayan Beach Staff and Family

The staff at Mayan Beach Garden is happy to have our guests enjoy the beauty and hospitality that is part of Mayan Beach Garden. We are however in a remote area of the world and we realize that there are a few amenities that are not available (such as hair dryers and phones) and will go out of our way to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. Just let us know how we can help you.

All of the cabanas and buildings at Mayan Beach Garden have been constructed by owner and builder by trade -- Kim Bales, using tradesmen from local towns. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Kim builds to US building standards for quality and safety, having built multi-unit complexes for many years before coming to Mexico.

The name Mayan Beach Garden came from their passions. Kim loves Mayan Ruins, Marcia loves gardening and both love the Caribbean (Marcia likes to be IN the caribbean and Kim likes to LOOK at it!)

Lupe

Lupe is one of our cooks. She knows how to make EVERYTHING Yucatecan. From Bacalar, Lupe leaves her family every week to come out and stay at Mayan Beach Garden and cook great food. She is putting her daughter through the university while she works with us.

At the left she is pictured with "Pan de Muerto" - the bread eaten by Mexican families on day of the dead as they remember their loved ones. We serve the traditional bread here at Mayan Beach Garden once a year dunked in traditional Mexican chocolate milk. Lupe makes it better than any you will find in a Mexican bakery.

Fabiola is our other cook. The thing I like the most about her is that she is so CLEAN!!!! When you worry about catching things from eating bad food -- this is a blessing. She hates insects of all kinds -- something I count as a blessing! She is also a great cook, something you will quickly catch on to! -- her Caribbean/Mexican fusion cooking is outstanding and we are delighted to have her in our kitchen.

Rafa
Rafael is our longest existing employee. He knows how to do EVERYTHING. From maintenance to cooking some of our standard meals - to bartending - he does it all with a smile! His English is improving every day -- someday he just might make us obsolete! If only there were two of him!

Always trying to learn new things, Jorge has been with us on and off for a year. His English is the thing he works on the hardest, but he's also quick to teach you a few words in Spanish if you are inclined. Jorge cleans rooms, waits tables, and occasionally cleans the beach. This multi-talented man's specialty is napkin folding. While this sounds unusual, you will find that when he is the waiter, the napkins on the table are folded in artistic shapes - differing daily. On the other end of the spectrum, he was a champion long distance swimmer and likes to exercise and work out!

Jorge now offers Spanish classes here at Mayan Beach Garden during high season. During Mid season he attends classes at the University. If you want to have Spanish classes during slow season, Jorge is willing to take a break from his own schooling and come teach you. Just let us know.
